The idea of entering Pardes was originally a meditative ascension described in the Talmud and later in Hechalot meditative texts. PARDES came to be used as an acronym for levels of interpretation: Peshat (simple meaning), Remez (symbolic meaning), Drash (homiletic meaning) and Sod (kabbalistic meaning). We will learn and discuss a text to illustrate these different levels of understanding to help guide educators in using the Pardes method to deepen and enrich any learning experience.
